NIKIFOROVO VILLAGE

The Nikiforovo village is located in the western part of the Republic of Macedonia, on the Bistra mountain in the Mavrovo National Park, some 4-6 km away from the "Zare Lazarevski" ski resort in Mavrovo. It's settled on the shores of the artificial Mavrovo Lake on the opposite side from the Mavrovi Anovi village.

The village got it's name Nikiforovo by the priest Nikifor, who was founder of a small monastery. Valuable religious monument, the Monastery of St. Pantelejmon, is situated in the vicinity of the village of Nikiforovo, on the coast of Lake Mavrovo. During the latest archaeological excavations a valuable Christian basilica erected in the ninth century and some items dating from the 5th century were discovered there.
